Director, Byron Aihara: is a graduate of the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television. He holds a BFA in Motion Picture Production. In the 1990s he produced a series of experimental one hour videos into a television show called Fashon Felon, that documented street fashon in California. From 2002 to 2005 he created the web site Bollywood501, that has grown to contain the worlds largest database for Bollywood and Indian cinema images on the internet. His work from Bollywood501 has been published in Hindustan Times, Times of India, among others, and over 20 Bollywood related websites. His photography has also appeared in Surfer Magazine. Chanderi City of Weavers is his first feature film.

January 2004: First trip to Chanderi for 3 days to witness sari, weaving, and textile production.

February 2007: Second trip to Chanderi doing further research and taking over 1500 photographs.

December 2007: to April 2008: Completed 3 shooting schedules in Chanderi comprising 2 weeks in December, a 7 week shoot from February to March, and 2 weeks in April, for a total of over 2 1/2 months of gathering story and footage. He shot over 50 hours of digital video tape and 6000 plus still photographs.

May 2008: Currently back in the United States to begin post-production.

 

Chanderi, the City of Weavers is the working title of the independent film and video directed by Byron Aihara on the hand weavers of Chanderi, India, who make the world renowned Chanderi sari.
